Developing Lands below Transmission Lines

The proposal to develop lands below transmission lines is aimed at improving the economy of Perak, besides strengthening the working relationship between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation (SADC).

This was the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SADC and TNB which was signed at the SADC office in Ipoh recently. The MoU was signed by SADC Chief Executive Officer, Haji Ahmad Rizal Abd Rahman and Datuk Rozimi Remeli from TNB.

Ahmad Rizal told Ipoh Echo that plans are underway to grow cash crops on these lands. The areas identified are in the districts of Manjung, Perak Tengah and Kinta. “By developing these lands we can maximise land usage, increase productivity and create job opportunities, especially among single mothers and teenagers who are interested in agriculture.”

Present at the signing ceremony were the Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, Housing and Local Government, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad and the State Financial Officer, Dato’ Mohd Ghazali Jalal.

Datuk Rozimi thanked the Perak state government for coming up with the idea. “It’ll benefit the state by creating economic opportunities for the rakyat while at the same time ensuring the security of TNB’s transmission towers and lines.”
