Lafarge Brings Festive Cheer

Employees of Lafarge Malaysia Berhad (Lafarge) brought early festive cheer to residents of Kanthan Bahru by chipping in to repair and renovate a resident’s house, and to clean up the surrounding area through gotong-royong. Employees of the cement plant also took the opportunity to distribute festive hampers to the residents.

More than 30 Lafarge employees gathered at Madam Wong Yun Mooi’s house early in the morning to repair and renovate the house. They repaired the windows and flooring and gave the house a fresh coat of paint. The employees also cleaned up the surrounding area by cutting the grass and cleaning the drains. To add to the festivities, the employees decorated the house with lanterns.

After the repair works, the group proceeded to the Kanthan Bahru community hall where Sekar Kaliannan, Lafarge Kanthan Plant Manager distributed festive hampers to over 30 families within the community.

“Lafarge has been operating in Kanthan for the past 50 years and we make it a point to do something for the community annually. This year, we wanted to do more. So, we worked closely with the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) to come up with this activity, which not only benefits the community, but also gives our employees the opportunity to contribute their time and effort to ensure the success of the activity,” said Sekar.

Also present at the event was Loh Ah Kwee, President of the JKKK, who alongside Sekar Kaliannan, presented hampers to the community.

“We are very happy with the support Lafarge has shown to the Kanthan Bahru community over the years. The residents are appreciative of the kind gesture.”
