A Musical Nostalgia

Nearly 2000 fans of legendary rocker, Datuk Ramli Sarip were entertained to a concert held within the premises of PORT on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Ipoh recently. It was a nostalgic evening as the seasoned singer from Singapore belted 19 evergreen songs, some dating back to his formative years more than four decades ago.
In an opening act another rock legend, Mus May, set the mood for the evening by delivering three of his hits. The concert witnessed performances by popular local musicians, namely, guitarist Man Kidal, bassist Fauzi Zain, keyboardist Roza Kasul, drummer Tom Anuar and percussionist Paang Zaman.
To augment the night’s collections, Ramli Sarip surprised the crowd by auctioning his guitar. The successful bidder was the Director of PORT, Dato’ Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin who paid RM7500 for the singer’s prized possession.
Dato’ Zainol was then invited on stage to duet with the guest artiste. They sang Ramli’s hit song, “Bukan Kerna Nama” to the delight of the appreciative audience. The closing number for the night was the rendition of “Teratai”, a hugely popular song in the mid-1980s.
The travelling ‘Konsert Blues Buat Teman’ (Blue Concert for Friends), organised with the objective of sourcing funds in aid of local artistes who are burdened with health problems and mounting medical bills, will move on to Penang, Terengganu and Malacca.
