St John Ambulance Visits Bougainvilla Nursing Home

Members of St John Ambulance visited Bougainvilla Nursing Home as part of their community service programme. Manin Singh, State Superintendent St John Ambulance, said that they sponsored lunch for the inmates. They also provided rice, biscuits and towels. The members spent about half a day at the nursing home and spoke to the inmates and fed the bedridden.

Khong Eng Kuan, one of the two retired nurses who run the home in Westpool Park, said that there are 40 inmates who are old, handicap and bedridden. The home was set up about 20 years ago and inmates pay as they can afford. Most of the inmates come from poor families.
