KK-style Laksa Hits Ipoh

By Ili Aqilah

Laksa has been one of the iconic foods in Malaysia that is enjoyed by everyone regardless of their age and who can blame them? Who can resist the hot and spicy fish broth with soft thick white noodles? The fact that it can be enjoyed at any time of the day, it is no wonder that Malaysia has a large variety of laksa styles waiting to be savoured. Curry Laksa, Penang Laksa, Asam Laksa are common and now the classic way of serving laksa is slowly making its comeback: Laksa served with a nest-shaped fried egg, known as Laksa Sarang (nest).

Laksa Sarang was originally from the royal town of Perak, Kuala Kangsar and now it’s finally arrived in Ipoh where two restaurants have been serving Laksa Sarang in their own style.

1. Laksa Telur Goreng Bersarang (LTGB)

Located at Taman Botani, LTGB was one of the first restaurants serving the Kuala Kangsar Laksa. Customers also get to add in their choice of additional garnitures like fishcakes and fishballs. The price starts from RM3.50 and above. The rustic Malay ambiance in the cafe will definitely make you come back again to this place!

Laksa Bersarang Taman Botani opens every day except Friday from noon until 7pm, and is located at No.1, Jalan Margosa D/8, Seri Margosa, Taman Seri Botani.

2. Ipohlicious

Opened recently at Kampung Dato Ahmad Said, Ipohlicious slowly gained its popularity for serving delicious Laksa Sarang or as written on the menu, Laksa Saranghae (Saranghae means I Love You in Korean). Priced at only RM4, Laksa Saranghae is guaranteed to satisfy your Laksa craving. Side condiments to compliment your Laksa Sarang include fish crackers, hard-boiled eggs and many more.

If you are not in the mood for Laksa, Ipohlicious also offers a variety of Malay/Thai food such as fried rice and also western delicacies. Wash down your meal with a bowl of their ABC (Malaysian Shaved Ice) that comes with fruits, jelly, ice cream and biscuits.

Ipohlicious is located near Mydin Manjoi at Lorong Pasar, Kg. Sungai Tapah, Gugusan Manjoi, 30020 Ipoh.
