A difficult family background is no obstacle to achieving success in academics.
Ipoh-born Intan Nurul Syafiqah, 18, proved that despite a lack of attention from her parents, she still scored 9As in the recent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
“My dream to repay my grandparents who have sacrificed a lot for me since I was little has finally been fulfilled. This is the most meaningful and valuable gift I could give them whom I consider as my mum and dad.”
“Though I can’t be sure if my biological parents are proud of my results, it’s more important that my grandparents are happy. That means more to me and I’m very thankful,” she said when met at Sekolah Raja Perempuan Taayah on Thursday, March 3.
According to Syafiqah, she was raised by her grandparents, Zabidah Mohd Saad, 69, and Samran Abd Manap, 66, since birth after her parents separated. Syafiqah is the eldest grandchild under her grandparents’ care.
Meanwhile, the school’s Administration Assistant, Hayati Mohd Amin said that as many as five students obtained straight As with a School Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.69. That was among the best in the state.
