Open Day at Fairview Ipoh

Fairview International School Ipoh, the only International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school in Ipoh, held its open day on Saturday, April 22 at its campus.

“Today’s session is meant for new and prospective parents to see what our current parents are doing to support our students in terms of learning because what makes IB different and special from traditional systems is that we address all three stakeholders (teachers, students and parents) at the same time,” Natalya Krassilnikova, head of Ipoh campus told Ipoh Echo.

“Traditionally, parents are rarely involved in the process, they just come when it’s time for final assessment or report cards. In IB here at Fairview Ipoh, we actually involve our parents a lot. So every five weeks we have this ‘Celebration of Learning’, a student-led conference where students explain to their parents what they have learnt so far. They will share about their activities, field trips, portfolios and final projects,” the amiable Natalya explained.

“What they need to learn is how to learn,” she emphasised.

Organised every three months, the open day which was attended by over 30 families also featured a campus tour, exhibition and presentation.

Offering primary years programme (age 4-12), middle years programme (age 11-17) and diploma programme (age 16-19), interested readers can call the school at 05 313 6888 or visit www.fairview.edu.my.

Hor Qin Yue:
