Adam and Natasha Win Perak Open

The 61st Perak Amateur Open 2017, held from August 10 to 12, saw Adam Arif Madzri, 16, and Natasha Andrea Oon, 15, winning the tournament. Both players carded identical scores of 213 (gross) each.

The tournament took place at Meru Valley Resort, Ipoh the host of one of the most popular tournaments in the region, for the 9th time.

“With our recent winning of the Asia Pacific Property Awards for being the Best Leisure Development in Malaysia, we once again put Ipoh on the international map. We hope more golfers, from all over the world, will come and enjoy golfing in Malaysia, especially at Meru Valley Resort,” said Shaifuzan Bahari Shamsul Bahari, CEO of Meru Valley Resort Berhad.

The tournament was decided by stroke play over 3 rounds of 18 holes (54 holes) within three days.

Adam, a KL-ite, thanked his mother for introducing him to the game of golf, “I’ve been playing the game for the past six years and I’ve grown fond of it. It’s an amazing feeling to win when you’ve to compete with so many talented and passionate golfers. I’m looking forward to coming here again next year,” said Adam, a student of SMK Damansara Utama.

As for Natasha, who has been playing golf since she was 4 years old, the former Cempaka International School, Damansara Heights’ student is gearing-up for more,

“This is my first tournament since I returned from US for a break. It was tougher than I thought. All players played their best and I am proud to compete with the best amateur players in the country,” added Natasha who planned to be a full-fledged golf professional.

A total of 102 players, consisting of 90 men and 12 women, including a South Korean, the Perak Amateur Open is one of the many tournaments organised and sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA). The next tournament on the cards is the Pahang Amateur Open, September 21 to 23 at Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang.

Among distinguished guests in attendance were CC Boo, vice president MGA; Dato’ Zulkifli Dato Ismail, MGA honorary secretary and competition committee chairman; and Teoh Piek Kee, tournament director and MGA Perak state representative.
