Food and Funfair

Although it was a scorching hot day, over 7000 Ipohites patronised the Food and Funfair, organised by Yayasan Sultan Idris Shah (YSIS) on Sunday, November 12.

The fair started at 8am and lasted till late afternoon. The organisers managed to collect a sum of RM80,000 thus achieving the target the non-profit organisation had aimed for.

“Our primary objective is to collect funds to acquire specialised equipment that needs to be replaced due to fair wear and tear.

“We’re glad that we’ve achieved the target. Proceeds from today’s sales will be used for the benefit of YSIS patients,” said Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Dr R. Ramanathan.

As early as 7am, committee members, volunteers and sellers were ready for action. They were busy setting up their stalls and preparing themselves for the momentous occasion.

Traders were eager to sell their home-prepared food, providing the YSIS compound with a festive atmosphere. There was a splendid array of mouth-watering dishes such as sataynasi lemak, ice cream and spaghetti to whet the crowd’s appetite.

No sooner was the fair opened, hundreds of visitors, young and old, thronged the foundation’s compound at Lorong Bercham 11, where the event was held.

They bought items using coupons priced at RM10 a booklet. All in all, some 8000 booklets were sold.

Children had a field day riding ponies and hanging around game booths trying their luck. Orphans and children with disabilities were there too.

Established in 1982, YSIS provides therapy and rehabilitation services for physically-challenged adults and children. Charges are minimal at RM30 a session.
