It was undoubtedly a marvellous Monday for Carina Khong Dewar Manohar, the 1st Runner-Up, and her three friends, Chong Chee Yong, Jess Tang Lai Wah and Jane Thun Chooi Tien, who successfully made it to the “Top 20 Shoes Design” category at the MALAYSIA FOOTWEAR DESIGN COMPETITION (MFDC) 2016. The winners, hailing from the School of Art & Design, Sunway College Ipoh, have been selected to participate in the International Shoe Design Competition 2017 in Guangzhou, China in May 2017.

The Perak Footwear Industry Association took pride in organising the 9th Malaysia Footwear Design Competition 2016 which was held at Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites. The objective of the competition was to nurture the future generation of Malaysian footwear designers so that they will be able to elevate the industry to whole new heights. Seven out of 16 participants from the School of Art & Design, Sunway College Ipoh were selected to showcase their designs in the final stage.

These diligent young designers invested a couple of months to plan and design their awe-inspiring footwear. Carina, Chee Yong and Jess were overjoyed when announced as the Top Six Winners under the “Men Shoes Design” category whereas their friend, Jane was selected from the “Women Shoes Design” category.

The winners were commended by Puan Adawiah Norli, the Principal of Sunway College Ipoh, who was also present at the MFDC 2016 final judging to show support to the participants. She later extended her best wishes to the selected winners who will be competing in the International Shoe Design Competition 2017. The next Jimmy Choo is in the making, perhaps?
