New Technology to Enhance Education System

White board and textbooks will soon be replaced with new technological gadgets in public schools and classrooms. In line with the brand new Malaysia, using technology will not only benefit the teachers and students, but will also create a more conducive learning. These were among statements made by the Minister of Education, Dr Maszlee Malik at the officiating ceremony of SMK Bawong on July 5 recently.

The affair was attended by HRH Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, HRH Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja DiHilir Perak; Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain with wife, HRH Tuanku Soraya Abdul Halim. Menteri Besar Perak, Ahmad Faizal Azumu together with a few state councillors who were also present at the event.

Dr Maszlee also stressed on the importance of upgrading the learning environment including adding high-speed internet connections, smartboard and tablets for students in each classroom.

“It is not just about adding technology in learning, we also aim to change teaching methods, that has been taught for years, by adding new elements that will push students to think outside the box; both creative and critical thinking,” said Maszlee.

SMK Bawong, located at Kampung Bawong, Sungai Siput currently has 375 students, 37 teachers and 11 staff. The school began its construction on November 25, 2013 and was part of the level two of Kampung Orang Asli Bawong Mini Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) project. The school is currently the only daily public school in the village and is fully equipped with science labs, computer labs, language labs, workshops and even Wi-Fi. The school began operation in September 2016 and was led by Anuar Mamat, the principal together with 15 teachers and five admin staff.
