Nonna Kitchen

By SeeFoon Chan-Koppen
This tucked away café in Ipoh Garden East occupies what used to be Tammy’s Kitchen. Since LVI Choong took over the restaurant and brought her own branding with her special style of cooking, Nonna has become a foodie cafe to be reckoned with.
Best known for their MSG free cooking, the menu is extensive with western and Chinese dishes, cakes and pastries. Thanks to the miracle of Thermomix, the all in one cooking device, the dishes are all freshly prepared and quickly too.

Have tea with scones and jam, salted-egg-filled croissants, macarons, cakes and pies or for a heavier meal, do savour their Chinese Rice Wine Chicken, an umami broth redolent of good Chinese wine, with Mook Yee fungus and ginger RM17.90. Minced Iberico pork stir fried with Thai basil, very fragrant at RM16.90; Tsu Geok Tso or Pigs Trotters in black vinegar, the tartness blending smoothly with the sweetness, with no added water, producing a mellow sauce coating velvety smooth chunks of trotters, RM14.90; the Iberico Pork Char Siew RM21.90; their Iberico Pork Roasted Ribs at RM15 per 100g and their perfectly steamed Signature Pomfret done the ‘Hokkien’ way with salted mustard greens, sliced tomatoes and pickled lime. Market Price.
