Peoplesiris: Ipoh Revisited 2018

While most would associate Ipoh with food, a group of local youths are making waves taking photos of strangers they meet and uploading them on Instagram with a story about the person.

Calling themselves Peoplesiris (People Series), they exhibited their work at the opening and soft launching of Peoplesiris’s Ipoh Revisited Exhibition 2018 at PeaceBeUponYou Store, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah.

The 3-week exhibition that started on January 6, will be on till 21 and displays a collection of photos taken by Peoplesiris and other participating individuals who send their photos to the team.

“We want everyone to see that there is more to Ipoh than what meets the eye and in tourist brochures. We have historic buildings with mesmerising stories, fascinating mix of cultures and that Ipoh’s unique vibe you can’t find anywhere else. We want to show all this through this exhibition,” said Hammad Zarif, representative from Peoplesiris.

During the soft launching, visitors were entertained by art performances from Sufjan Co., an upcoming local wear from Ipoh and a show by Faris Fuad & Konfedarates. The opening also saw Chris Lau, a freelance journalist, give a talk entitled: ‘Photographing the Hidden Story’ and Mohd Nuri Yaacob, a photography lecturer who had a discussion about ‘The Art of Photography in Journalism’.

For Hadib Salam Mansyurdin, a student from Lebuh Cator Vocational College, this was his first time showcasing his pictures in an exhibition. What amazed this young lad was realising that one of his photos was sold on the first day.

“Being a first timer, I was beyond shocked to see my picture sold. This inspires me to take more photos in the future. Exhibition like this should be done more as it encourages amateur photographers like me to be braver and explore more. Visitors to the exhibition get to see a different side of Ipoh,” said Hadib.

The exhibition is located at PeaceBeUponYou Store at 14 Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and the store opens every day from 11am to 10pm (Saturday-Thursday), 3pm -11pm (Friday). Photos are also available for sale based on first come, first served basis.
