Remembering the Veterans

‘Jelajah Veteran Sehati Sejiwa Negeri Perak’ is a platform to show appreciation for veterans who have contributed tremendously to our country in their respective fields,” said Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry bin Abd Kadir.

“We, as part of the younger generation, should learn from the veterans,” said Zambry in his inaugural speech. “When a mistake has been made, don’t hesitate to apologise. You’ll not compromise yourself or your position in any way by uttering ‘I’m sorry’. I feel touched by the commitment and sacrifices these veterans had made,” he added.

The event, held at the Taman Meru Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, January 13, was the fifth of the ‘Jelajah Veteran Sehati Sejiwa’ series. The first was held on December 16, 2017 at the Bukit Gantang Futsal Arena.

December 23, 2017 marked the second event which took place at Paya Panjang Hall, Padang Rengas followed by a third at the Mini Arena Amanjaya Manong, Kuala Kangsar on December 30, 2017. A fourth similar event was held at the Sungai Rokam Dato’ Ahmad Said Hall in Gopeng on Saturday, January 6.

Veterans who attended were mainly from the armed forces, police, and non-governmental organisations. This time around, a crowd of approximately 2000 people graced the occasion.

Amongst the activities organised were free medical check-ups and health talks. Apart from these two, events of interest were also discussed.

Such programmes will, hopefully, provide a more meaningful platform for these veterans to come together. Attendees expressed their gratitude and were proud that their sacrifices to the country were appreciated.
