Special Effects Makeup Challenge

By Rosli Mansor

The second Kellie’s Castle Special Effects Makeup Challenge was held on Saturday, October 5. The competition is an on-going effort to source fresh talents in the special effects makeup industry.

Haslinda Abd Hamid, director of the Taiping Community College, said that the programme, jointly organised by her college and the Batu Gajah Community College with the collaboration of Kellie’s Castle management, enabled students of the Beauty Therapy and Spa course to be more creative and adventurous.

“It’s the best platform for students to apply what they’ve learned. After completing their course, students are going to face lots of competition from the outside world. We want to prepare for these challenges.

“Special Effects Makeup is a compulsory subject for students taking the Beauty Therapy and Spa course. This subject requires a large amount of practical work and exposure.

“In this year’s challenge, participants are required to produce their pieces based on the zombie theme. Their creative touch reflects more originality and better attention to detail, which is in line with the theme,” she said after presenting awards to winners.

A total of 29 community college students participated in the challenge. In the open category, seven from the public took part.

Ainul Farisha Ishak from Batu Gajah Community College won the top spot in the community college category. Puteri Adilah Anis Rosli from Taiping Community College was first runner-up while Farisya Emy Shuhainy Uzair from Taiping Community College, the second runner-up.

The open category was won by Suriana Sukiman. Mastura Edora Hamre took second place and third place went to Noor Fakirah Mohd Zubir.

General Manager of Kellie’s Castle, Zamari Muhyi said that the event was a continuation of Kellie’s Night Tour Version Two. It was meant to enliven activities organised for visitors.

“We want people to know that there are many talented Malaysians in the Special Effects Makeup industry. The industry has long been dominated by Caucasians,” he told Ipoh Echo.
