The PWW Shop

Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) unveiled its latest empowerment project, The PWW Shop, on Friday, June 22.

The boutique shop sells well-kept, pre-loved items (some brand new!) and collectibles which are all contributed by donors.

“The main emphasis is empowerment and business skills. Now as we have started off, we’ve got a lot of items donated by generous donors. Later, we are trying to get ladies who are trying to sell their stuff. For example, single mothers or anyone for that matter who are trying to start a business but find it difficult to actually get a venue to market their products. Like a stepping stone, we hope to help them by introducing their product here. If things are going well, later they can set up wherever they want,” Sumathi Sivamany, President of PWW explained on her vision for the place.

“If there is something which you would want to donate for a cause, give it to us as we need to keep replenishing things here in the shop. The proceeds are going to help us sustain this project and at the same time empower other ladies. Plus, there is something for everyone here. Do come and browse!” Sumathi enthused.

“We will be conducting training and skills workshops here for small groups. This is also the place where we are promoting our ongoing peace-filled community project to end all forms of violence, ‘One Million Stars to End Violence’. We are almost at 370,000, hopefully we can hit our 400,000 by October. We know we’ll hit the target of one million stars,” the practising lawyer added.

The PWW Shop was launched by Kava Subramaniam, the director of Perak Department for Women’s Development. “It’s a very good initiative. I hope Perakean women would take the opportunity to join the programmes here which are free of charge,” she said.

Among the guests was Caroline Wong who told Ipoh Echo, “It’s such a relief and pleasure for me to get rid of some of my stuff and at the same time helping others.”

Manned by volunteers, the PWW Shop opens from 10am to 4pm (closed on Tuesday) at 15, Market Street (next door to Market Place Waffle Café).  Those who would like to donate or volunteer can call 05 246 9715. Swing by its Facebook page for more updates: The PWW Shop

PWW is a registered, apolitical, non profitable and non-governmental organisation set up in 2003 to enhance the status and lives of women in Perak irrespective of their race, religion and social background.
