Timely Assistance for Widow

As reported in Ipoh Echo 265 the article about a 65-year-old widow, Azmi Zainuddin and her 11 dependents touched the hearts of many individuals and organisations.

Light House Society (LHS), an Ipoh-based non-governmental organisation, which has been around for nearly 13 years, made the first move by volunteering to donate food and groceries on a monthly basis.

“After reading the poor widow’s plight in Echo we concluded that her problems were real. She requires continuous attention. The society will provide the family with food and groceries every month,” said a senior member of the society to Ipoh Echo when met at Azmi’s rented flat at Taman Bercham Aman recently.

The society donated a wheelchair, a bed and a walking stick to Azmi. The items are aimed at lightening Azmi’s burden.

Econsave hypermarket Ipoh donated food and medicines to Azmi and her family.

Econsave Operation Manager (Northern 2) Chua Yong Chiang said that it was part of the hypermarket’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme called “Econsave Care”, which was initiated five years ago.

Azmi expressed her gratitude for the timely assistance her family received. “It’s God-sent,” she intimated.

The lady suffered injuries after the motorcycle, she and her son, Mohd Zuri Zambri, were riding, was hit by a car near their flat late last year. She has been bedridden ever since. Her condition prevented her from working as a traditional masseuse.

Her other son, Mohd Anuar, 43, who worked as a labourer, was the breadwinner, but due to recurrent swellings on his right thigh, he had to quit his job and rest. His wife, Norazian Bahari, 42, is partially blind due to surgery to remove a brain tumour.

In their times of need, the appearance of these Good Samaritans is a huge blessing in disguise. A big thank you to LHS and Econsave. You made Azmi’s day.
