The Rotary Club of Ipoh celebrated its 80th birthday with an appeal to all past presidents who are no longer members of the club to return and help guide and groom young Rotarians to be future Rotary leaders.

Its president Wu Chee Thutt made the appeal in his speech at the dinner held recently to mark the anniversary of the club and Past Presidents Day at the Ipoh City and Country Club. Present were 27 past presidents of the club, Rotarians and guests.

Mr. Wu said the club could take pride in its noteworthy projects such as the Senior Citizens’ Club, Organ Donation Centre, Salvation Army Boy’s Home and the school for special Children in Kampung Tawas.

“Our club now stands as a monument of selfless service. And I firmly believe that monument will stand the test of time, for fellowship is the cement that binds us together”, he added.

Other projects undertaken by the club include Kledang Hill’s resting station for joggers, fire fighting volunteers squad, reflexology path at Polo Ground, Ipoh Library, clean water supply schemes for Orang Asli settlements, and inter-school debate.
