Fun with Oral Hygiene

Or how to remove the fear of dentists for children

Fun activities related to dental care are organised by Pantai Hospital Ipoh (PHI) to inspire children from orphanages to have good oral hygiene.

It is part of the hospital’s Oral Hygiene Workshop and Free Screening for orphans under its “Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR) programme.

Held at its Dental Clinic recently, 29 children from the Precious Gift Home, apart from participating in the fun activities were also given a talk on oral hygiene, demonstrations on brushing technique and dental screening.  It was conducted by Resident Dentist, Dr Sunita Diwakar Naidu.

It was a fun filled day for the children as their fear of visiting dentists were forgotten as they excitedly took part in colouring pictures, maze challenges and doing puzzles which are dental related.

This event is the start of the hospital’s “Bright Smile Project”, which is to provide health awareness and educate children and the public on oral hygiene and caring for their teeth.

Oral Hygiene Workshops

Every month (starting this March) the hospital will carry out various activities to provide education and health awareness under this project. The hospital started its dental services early this year and as part of its outreach to the community, it is conducting oral hygiene workshops and providing promotional rates for children during the school holidays as well as for adults.

Pantai Hospital Ipoh has always been very actively involved in CSR projects.  Just the first two months of the year saw them carrying out CSR projects which included providing free refreshments for devotees and public as well as medical aid (ointment rub) for kavadi bearers and public during ‘Thaipusam’ on January 30. In February,  they hosted a Chinese New Year Party and choir performance by PHI staff for clients of Perak Palliative Care Society , a Chinese New Year Party at Rumah Warga Tua Wa Khiew in Sungai Siput in collaboration with Rotary Club of Kuala Kangsar,  a Chinese New Year Party and dance performance by PHI nurses for 250 residents of Rumah Seri Kenangan and organized a Chinese New Year Caring from the Heart Project, where free medical screening and donation of sundries was done for 29 poor families in Manjung.
