SMK Raja Perempuan (RPS) hosted the handing-over ceremony of an organic farm to the school by Rotary Club of Ipoh recently. The “Organic Farming, Composting and Environmental Protection for Secondary Schools” is a project initiated by the Rotary Club of Ipoh in collaboration with RPS. The project’s intention is to educate school students on sustainable and agro-free farming methods using canteen green wastes and organic compost. The project, which began in August 2009, was then adopted by CIMB Bank under its community-link initiative. “This is one of CIMB Group’s corporate social responsibility programmes aimed at providing a long-term positive impact on the community”, said Azliza Ahmad Zaman, CIMB Ipoh’s Branch Manager. Rotary Club Ipoh President, Wu Chee Tutt, remarked that the primary objective was to encourage students to adopt a hands-on approach to environmental protection. Rotary Club Ipoh was later presented with a cheque worth RM31,000 by CIMB Bank. “The organic farm would benefit teachers and students”, said a delightful Cik Rusnani, the school’s principal.
