A single mother, Chin Peck Yen, 40, appeals for assistance from well-meaning Ipohites to lessen the burden of raising her five children. Chin’s husband, Chong Wei Yoon, 47, succumbed to injuries sustained after falling from his tractor recently. Since her husband’s death Chin has been living a hand-to-mouth existence. She does odd jobs waiting and helping at hawker stalls in Pusing. Her meagre income of about RM200 a month can hardly support her family. The eldest, a 13 year-old boy is in secondary school while the youngest, a 5 year-old boy is in kindergarten. “It was fine when my husband was alive. But since his demise the future is really bleak for us”, she told Ipoh Echo when approached. Chin was evicted from her rented house recently and now lives with her sister-in-law in Ladang Gunung Hijau, Pusing. Her plight was highlighted by the MCA Batu Gajah Deputy Division Chief, Dato’ Lee Kon Yin.
