At the recent Canadian TaeKwon-Do ITF National Championship held in Vancouver on November 12, Ipohite, Wan Xiang Wei, 12 (ex-IIS student) representing the province of British Columbia won silver medal in the lightweight (pre-Junior Boys Under-14) black belt second dan sparring category. The winner, Trevor Kanai, 13, from the province of Saskatchewan, was the tournament favourite. This is the first time a junior member of the Perak TaeKwon-Do Association (ITF) had ever competed for a title at an international level, says Senior Master Mohd Azwan Khoo, Deputy President of ITFM and chief instructor of Perak. Xiang Wei’s sister, Wan Qi Shin, 9, won gold for pattern and sparring under the green belt category for girls under 10. Sue Mah-Wan (pic), 43, the mother of the siblings, won bronze in the veteran black belt category for sparring. Over 800 competitors from all over Canada participated in the championship, which was held at the Winter Olympics indoor stadium at Richmond, Vancouver.
