Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli, President of BAIDURI (Badan Amal dan Ushah Isteri Perak) and wife of Perak Menteri Besar, gave away donations worth RM10,000 to individuals and associations, as a prelude to the New Year. In a simple ceremony at the Menteri Besar’s residence recently, she presented a cheque for RM2,000 to Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Muslimah, a society for Muslim single mothers and another cheque for the same amount to Persatuan Ching Yoong Perak, a Chinese welfare body.
Heart patient, Muhamad Safawi Anwar, received RM1,000 for follow-up operations at Institut Jantung Negara. Saimah Sanip, a breast cancer victim, received RM2,000 to cover her medical bills incurred at the Ipoh Community Specialist Hospital. Muniswaran, 4, who suffers from paralysis, was given a custom-made wheelchair worth RM3,000.
“Our association’s focus this year will be on assisting poor students from the rural areas. Fifty thousand Ringgit will be set aside to buy books, reference materials, conduct tuition and other forms of assistance aimed at improving their academic performance.,” Saripah told reporters. The donations, according to the Baiduri President, were part of those allocated for 2010.
