The MBO-Perak International Youth Hockey Tournament 2011 was officially launched by Mayor Dato’ Roshidi Hashim on June 30. The tournament will be played over a two-day period from Jul
y 7 to 9. Matches will be played simultaneously at Ipoh Padang and the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium.
A total of 140 youth teams, mainly school teams from all over the country, will participate in three age groups as follows: Below 18 (Boys and Girls), Below 15 (Boys and Girls) and Below 12 (Boys and Girls).
The tournament, held in conjunction with the 23rd Anniversary of Ipoh Day, is jointly sponsored by Milo, MBI and the National Sports Council. Its primary objective, said the mayor, was to source for new and raw talents for the national team. “Hockey is a healthy activity which will benefit the youths and, therefore, should be encouraged,” he remarked. Thailand will enter a couple of youth teams of her own.
