A contingent of 10 special Olympians, accompanied by coach Choong Chee Hin, represented Malaysia in bowling at the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011 in Kostava, Greece recently. Coach Choong and team member, Andy Hussaini Mus Albakri, both hail from Perak. Andy, 23, is a student at the Perak Association for Intellectually Disabled (formerly known as Perak Association for Mentally Retarded), Kampong Tawas. Out of three players, Andy, who has been playing for two years, was the only one representing Perak in the national team. To prepare for the games, the Perak players trained for 2 to 3 years. About 40 teams from different countries participated in bowling and the Malaysian team bagged six Gold, eleven Silver and eleven Bronze medals in the event.
