Road Closures and Detours for Thaipusam 2012

In conjunction with the Thaipusam celebration, the chariot procession will proceed from Sg. Pari temple to the temple at Gunung Cheruh.

The roads affected are:

  1. Jalan Sg. Pari/Jalan Guntung
    All traffic will divert to Jalan Guduwara
  2. Jalan Sg, Pari/Jalan Lahat
  3. Jalan Tun Perak/Jalan Lahat
  4. Jalan Lahat
  5. Traffic lights Lahat/Kidd
  6. Jalan Lahat/Jalan Sultan Yusuf
  7. Traffic lights at Jalan Sultan Yusuf/Jalan Sultan Iskandar
  8. Jalan Sultan Idris
  9. Traffic-lights at Jalan Sultan Idris/Jalan Laksamana
  10. Traffic-lights at Jalan Sultan Idris/Jalan Dato Onn Jaafar
  11. Traffic-lights at Jalan Sultan Idris/Jalan Raja Musa Aziz
  12. No entry to Jalan Raja Musa Aziz

ROAD CLOSURES AND DETOURS

Monday 6 February 2012 – 10.00PM

The movement of kavadis at Gunung Cheruh temple from 10.00PM Monday 6 Feb till 4.00AM Wednesday 8 Feb. The roads affected are:

  1. Hospital roundabout
    Traffic will be diverted to Jalan Raja Musa Aziz or Jalan Hospital
  2. Jalan Istana/Jalan Raja Musa Aziz
    Traffic will be diverted to Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab
  3. Jalan Raja Musa Aziz from Jalan Kuala Kangsar
    Traffic will be diverted to Jalan Istana towards city centre
  4. Slip road from Bangunan PTG (former SUK)
    Traffic will be diverted to Jalan Istana towards city centre

Road users are advised to park their vehicles so that it does not block traffic at Medan Ipoh Raya, Jalan Hospital, Raja Musa Aziz and slip roads entering and exiting Padang Tembak Police quarters.

Tuesday 7 February 2012 – 7.00AM to 9.00PM

The intersection at Jalan Sg. Pari/Jalan Guntung will be closed and all traffic diverted. Road users are advised to use Jalan Guduwara or alternative roads to the city centre do avoid congestion and traffic jams.

The return of the chariot is expected to start at 5.00PM on Wednesday 8 Feb. and end at 10.00AM on Thursday 9 Feb. Road closures and diversions will be affected in stages as follows:

  • side lane of Jalan Istana to Jalan Raja Musa Aziz
  • Jalan Raja Musa Aziz from Jalan Kuala Kangsar
  • side lane from Bangunan PTG (former SUK)
  • Hospital roundabout
  • Jalan Raja Musa Aziz (no entry)

All road users are advised to take alternative roads and plan their journeys to avoid traffic jams and to follow directions from the traffic police on duty.
