The Diploma of Finance and Islamic Banking Club of Politeknik Ungku Omar, Ipoh, organised an orientation programme recently to welcome “freshies” to the faculty. The day-long event was aptly named “Program Tautan Kasih Persaudaraan” to denote its objective of establishing cordial relationships among students of the faculty. In essence, it was to orientate new students to the college environment and to instil in them a sense of camaraderie. Some have never left home and have never been exposed to living in dorms and among strangers. Over 180 Semester 1 to Semester 6 students registered for the programme. The first activity on the card was aerobics. Lecturer Ramu led the students through some light exercises aimed at loosening up joints and limbs. This was followed by a series of group-orientated activities such as ice-breaking (getting to know the seniors) and treasure hunt. The activities, though a little strenuous, were enjoyable as the students got to interact with their peers. The programme ended with the mass signing on a stretched banner led by Mohd Syazwan, the club’s advisor, as a form of endorsement by the college and the student body.
