Heavy downpour in the first half of the game failed to deter the spirited play of both MBI and Perak Sikh Union (PSU) in the Division 1 final of the 2012 Ipoh League Hockey Tournament, held at Stadium Azlan Shah, recently. The tournament, organised by Ipoh City Hockey Association, is one of two local leagues in the country; the other is held in Kuala Lumpur. Sikh Union played a solid game to put in two goals into MBI’s net; one from a penalty corner by Jasdev Singh and the other, a field goal by Riduan Nasir.
Manager, Hardav Singh, was proud of his boys’ achievement, having lost to MBI last year on a golden goal. His team had trained hard for the tournament and played exceptionally well. The winning team received RM500, medals and the challenge trophy while runner-up MBI took home RM300 and medals.
On the adjacent pitch, Ipoh Lads faced Tsuyoi Club from Teluk Intan in the Division 2 final. Ipoh Lads won scoring three goals; one from a penalty corner by Mohd Anuar and two from field goals by Hussin and Saiful Adzuan, respectively. Tsuyoi Club only managed a solitary goal through Muhd Azam, who converted a penalty corner. Ipoh Lads took home RM300 while Tsuyoi Club received RM200.
Prizes were given away by Perak Hockey President, Dato’ Hj Abdul Rahim Mat Ariff.
