This year’s Synthomer Best Chemistry Graduate Award was won by Khoo Hooi Tee of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). She received the award at a presentation ceremony held at the Perak campus on Wednesday, July 25.
Khoo received an additional RM3,000 along with the award. Minhat Wahid, Synthomer Sdn Bhd’s Director of Human Resources, presented the award on behalf of the corporation. Khoo has successfully completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) Chemistry degree with a First Class Honours. Convocation will be in October.
Khoo is the third recipient of the Synthomer award. She plans to pursue a Master’s degree in the field of chemistry and hopes to secure a scholarship.
The presentation is made more meaningful as it coincides with the university’s 10th anniversary. The October Convocation will be held in the new hall.
For the record, UTAR went into a formal partnership on Research and Development with Synthomer Sdn Bhd in 2010. Johore-based Synthomer Sdn Bhd, one of the world’s major suppliers of lattices and emulsion polymers, currently sponsors two postgraduate students at UTAR.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were UTAR Council Chairman, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, UTAR President, Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Dean Faculty of Science, Dr Lim Tuck Meng and Vice President of Research and Development, Dr Lee Sze Wei.
