St Michael’s Institution’s recent annual drama offering ‘A Night of Double Joy’ which featured the play ‘The Lion King’ and followed by Talentime 2013 was indeed that, a night of double joy. As in previous years the play was something to look forward to as the students put forward their best performance each night.
This year’s offering, The Lion King was no exception. The overall production, lights, set and music were spot on. However, this year’s costumes and makeup were a notch above previous years possibly owing to the variety of animal roles in the musical.
The Talentime 2013 was indeed a bonus. The contest was divided into three categories: Solo, Group and Open and served its purpose by allowing the students to showcase their hidden talents. The Solo category was won by Arvinderan on guitar, the Pistache Brothers for Group and Remeinesce under the Open category for their energetic dance performance.
SMI Principal Madam Loh Wei Seng was right to say that the school “indeed had a lot of talented students” and it was clearly demonstrated when the Michaelian Military Band closed the night with their rendition of Psy’s popular number ‘Gangnam Style’, slick moves and all.
