The Registrar of Societies (ROS) Perak ‘adopted’ the Perak Society for the Promotion for Mental Health during a visit to the society in Ulu Kinta recently.
Guest of honour was ROS Perak Director, Amirthavalli A.V. Muthiah. She said that the department’s ongoing adoption programme was not aimed at providing monetary aid only but to inculcate the value of sharing among its staff.
The society rehabilitates patients in the hope that they can lead a normal life upon leaving. However, vice-president Dato’ R. Thambipillay commented that this is hard to achieve as people tend to have a negative perception of them. “They can also do what we do, maybe even better,” he said in jest.
The public can visit the patients. Those interested can contact the society at 05-533 2167 and 05-533 5457 for an appointment.
On a related matter, Amirthavalli said that societies can register easier now that the department has gone digital at e-ROSES. She hoped it would make the department more user-friendly.
