15 People Have Been Fined RM1,000 For Illegally Throwing Rubbish

As of August 12, a total of 15 people have been fined RM1,000 for illegally throwing rubbish around the city.

Although there have been warnings and announcements regarding fines without appeal before, there are still a few individuals who are seen to be indifferent to this issue.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said his party was firm in implementing the compound and any appeals would not be entertained.

“Starting August 1, we implemented a RM1,000 compound and until yesterday, a total of 15 people had been fined. I want to emphasize once again that no discount will be given.

“Most of these illegal garbage hotspots are in Pengkalan, Tasek, SPPK and Batu 8 in Tanjung Rambutan.

“We give these illegal garbage dumpers two weeks or 15 days to pay the fine and we will not entertain any appeal,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the Free 120 Liter Trash Can Delivery Programme at Taman Perpaduan Koperasi on Saturday.

Also present were MBI Councilor Zone 2, Puteri Holijah Muhamad Rali and MBI Chief Whip, Datuk Mazlan Abd. Rahman.

Rumaizi said more than 800 bins were distributed in the area today, including in other locations in Tanjung Rambutan.

Asked about the percentage of free bins distributed so far, he said that 43,000 bins have been received involving more than 25 locations.

“If the domestic holding for residences is around 180,000. We can say that almost 25 percent have been distributed.

“Our target at the end of this year is to reach 30 percent distribution.

“The distribution should be completed on December 31, 2025, that was the initial target. But after re-evaluation, we are confident that this distribution can be completed by 2024.

Taking a comparison with the state of Selangor for example, Rumaizi said it is different because the state has more residences than industrial areas.

“Among other constraints are our limited number of workers as well as the workload, as we not only need to collect domestically put-out garbage but also the illegally dumped garbage as well.

Previously, the media reported that stricter action will be taken against any party who are responsible for illegally dumping waste in Ipoh.
