FMM Perak Annual Dinner

A big turnout of prominent industrialists and guests was seen at the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Perak’s 46th Annual Dinner held at Impiana Hotel, Ipoh recently.

The number could be attributed to the anticipation of some important news concerning the manufacturing industry by Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, the guest of honour.

They were not disappointed as both Dato’ Gan Tack Kong, Chairman FMM Perak and Dato’ Saw Choo Boon, FMM President, spoke on the very subjects which they had come to hear.

Some of the salient points raised by the hosts were the reduction in fuel subsidy, the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax and foreign labour. These would invariably drive up costs and would impact both manufacturers and consumers.

In order to remain relevant, manufacturers, they cautioned, should increase productivity, improve competitiveness, convert operations to automation and upgrade technology.

Zambry, in his speech, outlined some initiatives taken by the state government to help spur growth in Perak.

Projects in the pipeline are the creation of the District of Mu’alim (Tg Malim and Slim River), establishment of the Southern Perak Development region, construction of the West Coast Expressway connecting Taiping to Banting and making the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport more vibrant with more incoming and out-going flights. This provided some glimmer of hope for the diners.

Mementos were also presented to the recipients of the ‘Top Supporters of FMM Institute Perak Training Programmes 2013/2014’.
