Showing Results and Moving Ahead
The Ipoh Lads Recreation and Social Club which first started in 2009 by a group of ex-state hockey players in Ipoh has begun to show results.
The club, which is affiliated under Ipoh City Hockey Association, is structured into three groups of members, the juniors (limited to age 18), the seniors (19-39 years) and the veterans (ages 40 and above). Their current membership strength is 100 including the juniors.
According to Club President Sharan Kumar, the objective of the club is simply to provide an avenue for the development of youth whether in sports or recreational activities.
One of the club’s focused activities, hockey, has since its inception, been showing very positive results in all age categories at domestic as well as at away games.
Recently, Ipoh Lads started a Junior Hockey Programme which they named their ‘Anak Angkat Program’ where the club adopted five schools and provided hockey coaching to its students. The programme is for five years and is structured for under12 and under-18 students. Apparently, their programme has been noticed as six of their players were called up for trials to play for the Pahang Junior League after which three were selected at the final selection.
This programme’s coaching sessions are currently being held every Saturday and Sunday from 3.00-5.00 p.m. at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium, Ipoh. “Any youth in the age category from 7-18 are welcome to join the programme,” said Sharan.
