Ipoh Town Hall and Old Post Office to be Renovated into Art Centres

With DBI’s RM11 million renovation, the old post office became an art activity centre following the concept of Istana Budaya.

The Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) in collaboration with the Ipoh City Council (MBI) is in the process of renovating the Ipoh Town Hall (DBI) and the old post office on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, into a centre for artistic activities with the concept of ‘Palace of Culture’.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said the total cost of the renovation project would be about RM11 million.

According to Nolee Ashilin, the renovation work will start next August and is expected to be completed by 2024.

“We and the National Visual Arts Board have reached an agreement for them to open a new branch. The Visual Arts Centre here is the second after Langkawi,” she told Ipoh Echo after completing the Launching Ceremony of Lorong Seni@Lorong Panglima.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said that the renovation was in line with both the realisation of the city of Ipoh as an art city and the preparations to celebrate ‘Visit Perak Year 2025’.

“The cost of the allocation will be financed by NCIA, God willing, the renovation will start in August.
