The spirit of teamwork and muhibbah – the way we were, the way it should be – beautifully captured in this photo taken during the Brooks-KRI Annual Run 2013 on October 6 at The Haven, Ipoh. More than 1000 runners of all races and nationalities participated in this much-loved event organised by Kelab Roadrunners Ipoh. It was flagged off by Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Haji Roshidi bin Hashim.
Perak’s first duathlon, tagged “My Duathlon @ The Haven” will be held on Sunday, August 25 beginning at 6.30am.
Unlike traditional triathlon where participants have to run, swim and cycle, the 30-km duathlon will require participants to run, cycle and run.
They have to run the first 5 km then cycle 20 km before finishing with a 5-km run. The final 600 metres is through The Haven before the finish line.
The event is a joint effort by My Triathlon Shop and Perak’s premier cycling club, Kelab Roadrunners Ipoh (KRI), the organiser of the annual Century Ride.
Karen Geh of My Triathlon Shop said she chose to organise the duathlon at The Haven because she was impressed with the location, its beautiful scenery and fresh morning air. “The participants could complete the course while in a very natural environment,” she said.
Geh added that there is no time limit. “As such it takes away the stress and allows the participants to enjoy nature along the route.”
KRI President, Chong Him Shoong said the event has attracted participants from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. He anticipated a thousand participants to register before the closing date. .
Chong announced that the Brooks-KRI Annual Run, the 15th in the series, will be held on Sunday, October 6 also at The Haven.
The run will feature a 10-km and a 21-km route to appeal to a wider range of participants and family members.
Starting from the opposite bank of Kinta Riverfront Hotel at 8am, 150 cyclists participated in the morning ride that took them via St Michael’s School through town to Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, Jalan Tun Dr Ismail, Padang Polo, Jalan Hospital and return via Taman DR Seenivasagam.
According to KRI President Choong Him Shoong, KRI recently launched their Ipoh City Tour Bike Station Riverwalk outlet and has bicycles for rent to tour the city.
The outlet also has ten biking routes for the visitor to choose, ranging from scenic, heritage and orchard routes.
Incidentally KRI Cycling Team had last July produced a booklet entitled ‘Perak Bike Ride’, which was launched together with Tourism Malaysia Perak branch and MBI, which identifies some worthy cycling routes in the state.
Hence, it is noteworthy that the bike station is another addition towards positively promoting tourism in the state.
The highly-anticipated annual Spritzer-KRI 12-km Run to be held on December 12 promises to be an even more exciting event this year.
According to Mr Chong Him Shoong, President of Kelab Roadrunners Ipoh (KRI), which organises the annual event, this will be the first time that the route will take participants through a golf course nestled deep in the Perak hinterland.
“More than just another race or run, KRI prides itself on offering people an experience to cherish, when they participate in our events. Each year, the KRI committee scours the Perak countryside in search of unique and interesting routes for the benefit of our participants.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer a wonderful route this year that will flag off from Bukit Kinding Resort, a charming country retreat tucked between Chemor and Tanjong Rambutan, Perak, and home to a nine-hole golf course.” he said.
Mr Chong said that KRI was particularly proud of this event as it traditionally attracts a large following of participants from outside Perak.
Dr. Teh Choong Hee, Group Human Resource Manager of Yee Lee Trading, said that Spritzer was proud to be the Title Sponsor this year.
“We will be providing participants with our health-giving and beneficial Spritzer Natural Mineral Water, which the University of London recently found to be naturally rich in orthosilicic acid (OSA), a trace mineral associated with numerous health benefits.
