China Students Entertain Blind Students

Some 37 primary school students from China brought smiles to the visually impaired students when they entertained them with songs and dances, late last year.

Colourful dance by the Chinese students-002The students from Hui Nan Youth Association consisting of 26 boys and 11 girls from the ages of nine and 11,  visited the Malaysian Association For The Blind (MAB) Gunung Rapat, Ipoh when they were on a five-day education tour. They were accompanied by some 10 teachers and the association director Su Qi Feng. “We are here not only to foster friendship with the Malaysian students but also learn something from the  visually impaired people of Perak,” he said.

The group was welcomed by the MAB Programme Director Dato’ Ahmad Saleh and Gurney Training Centre (GTC) Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Liew Yoon Loy. The highlight of the event was a demonstration on how the visually impaired students use Braille to type  and how they use a computer using the “jaws” technology in their daily lessons.

china students entertain blind studentsThe Braille demonstration was conducted by Arif Abu Farid who is the Braille instructor serving MAB Gunung Rapat on a voluntary basis while Meena Kumari demonstrated on the use of computer. Meena Kumari is currently teaching Braille typing and computer literacy to the visually impaired students at the MAB Gunung Rapat Centre.
