KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s efforts to enhance recycling practices are set to materialize with the announcement of the establishment of the Solid Waste Economic Cycle Council.

This Solid Waste Economic Cycle Council represents a high-impact initiative for the solid waste management sector.

Its establishment was approved during a Cabinet meeting on August 23rd as a national platform that employs a whole-of-nation approach.

This aims to bring together all stakeholders to expedite the transition of solid waste management from a linear economy to a holistic circular economy.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Development, Nga Kor Ming, stated that the establishment of this council is also poised to invigorate the recycling economy.

“The concept of circular economy-based solid waste management has the potential to stimulate economic activities within communities by creating new business opportunities when demand and the market for recycled products increase.

“This opportunity will open up more job offerings in the circular economy value chain, such as design, rental services, repair, remanufacturing, and recycling,” he said.

This aligns with the goals of clean, green, and sustainable development through a whole-of-nation approach as outlined by the government.
