IPOH: Perak Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching launched the ‘Stray Dogs in Schools Awareness Campaign’ recently.

Sandrea said that the program in collaboration with Sin Chew Daily and Mutts and Mittens was to carry out a series of ten programs to give awareness to the new generation regarding the issue of abandoned dogs.

“The issue of stray dogs needs to be addressed with various long and short-term solutions. This includes tightening the licensing system, effective enforcement actions, continuous Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) campaigns, awareness campaigns and so on.

“Since holding this portfolio, I have had time to meet with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are concerned about this issue to hear their views and suggestions, then to mobilize more action,” she said through a statement on Facebook.

At the same time, she said the state government had also sponsored the printing of the first illustrated book in Malaysia on the issue of stray dogs.

“Thank you also to the many Exco friends and State Assembly members who actively support and sponsor this program to be held in their respective areas.

“With more people being aware of this issue, I believe we are able to implement various solutions more effectively and solve this issue more comprehensively,” she said.
