Waiters Get Ready!

The official announcement of the 2nd edition of the Ipoh International Waiters Race took place at Tower Regency Hotel on Tuesday, March 4. It too witnessed the launch of the race’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages. Tourism Malaysia (Perak) Director, Hj Ibrahim Seddiqi bin Talib was in attendance. The race, scheduled for Sunday May 25, is aimed at promoting the gastronomical delights of Ipoh and to acknowledge the service of waiters in the hospitality industry.

The competition is divided into two categories, namely, the Classic Tray and Sportive Tray. Participation in the former is open to professionals working in hotels while the latter to those working in restaurants, pubs, bistros, students and the general public. An entry fee of RM30 will be imposed.

Organising Committee Chairman, Vincent Ee, expects between 200 to 250 participants this year and is working hard to get foreign participation. Last year 210 took part, of which 50 were non-citizens. Other attractions during the race include an ice-carving demonstration, teh tarik competition, live band performances and a wide range of hotel food specialty.
