Dance for a Better World

Ipoh Parade and d’Artiz Streetdance Studio jointly organised the “Give Chance a Dance” event within its premises recently. It consisted of two different dance competitions which were held on August 17 and 24, respectively.

The objective of the event was to promote dancing as a medium for a better world. The organisers donated the entire competition registration fees collected to Soroptimist International Ipoh, a non-governmental organisation who is providing needy children with educational and financial support at their local Edufun Centre.

“We want to promote a healthy lifestyle through dance especially among youths. Instead of being so immersed in the social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, why not try other meaningful activities? There’s a much more exciting world out there,” said Nicklauz Kok, the Director of d’Artiz Studio in his opening remarks.

Ipoh Parade manager, Chan Yu Yin, said that aspiring performers not only got to showcase their dancing talents but to appreciate the importance of community service, as well.

A total of 18 teams consisting of two or more participants, ranging in age between 9 to 35 years old, took part in the competition on August 17. The “Give Chance a Dance” event was officiated by Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, the Executive Councillor for Non-Islamic Affairs through his representative, Ipoh City Councillor Chan Soon Yip.
