Writing is Maniam’s Love

“I’ll continue to write and contribute to the media fraternity till the end of my life,” declared T. Subramaniam, 49, despite the fact that he had his right leg amputated a year ago due to diabetes.

“The amputation was the result of a minor accident that caused a slight wound to my big toe while on vacation in India with my family last year. In just three weeks my entire leg became swollen and painful. The doctor advised that my leg be amputated to stop the infection from spreading, and I had to go along with it.”

Subramaniam, who has suffered from diabetes for over two decades, has served Tamil Nesan for 14 years and still continues working for the paper in order to support his family of five. Two of his children are still schooling.

“My wife helps me in my work as a reporter, as I’ve to move around with clutches,” he told members of the press after receiving financial assistance from the patron of the Perak Media Sports and Welfare Club, Dato’ Seri Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar, at a Deepavali charity dinner hosted by the club at Impiana Hotel Ipoh recently.

Also present at the dinner were special adviser on Indian affairs to Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ V. Elango and President of Perak Media Sports and Welfare Club Wan Asrudi Wan Hassan.
