Stop Hunger in Perak

The “Stop Hunger Now” event was held recently at the Sunway Lost World Hotel. It was a part of the on-going Sunway’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to reach out to the poor and the needy in Perak.

More than 150 Sunway employees packed at least 25,000 packages of nutritious meals by hand for distribution to the Orang Asli villages of Kg Sekam, Tapah, Kg Chang, Bidor, Kg Air Bah Lawin, Gerik, Kg Sg Lawin Selatan and Gerik via the Sahabat Orang Asli Project.

The volunteers formed assembly lines to pack the highly nutritious meals consisting of rice, soya, vegetables, flavourings and 21 essential vitamins and minerals. Each pack contained six servings. Each serving costs RM1 to produce. Packing was done by members of the Sunway Staff Club and the Sunway Social Club.

“The initiative is in line with Sunway Group’s CSR philosophy and is one of our biggest volunteer efforts involving 390 employees from the central, southern and northern regions to pack a total of 120,000 meals,” said the Sunway Group’s group brand marketing and communication assistant general manager, Bernard Paul, who hosted the event.

“Last year, we packed 100,000 meals for more than 1000 individuals at various Sunway outlets throughout Peninsular Malaysia. This year, we’ll beat that record by packing 120,000 meals nationwide,” he added.

“Stop Hunger Now” is a USA-based movement which delivers food and life-saving aids to the world’s most vulnerable people with the aim of ending global hunger in this lifetime. Sunway supports this effort and does so by aiding and feeding the less fortunate communities in the country.
