Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) held its convocation at Hotel Casuarina @ Meru on Tuesday, April 4. A total of 139 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduates were presented with temporary practising certificates and took part in an oath-taking ceremony.
The auspicious event was officiated by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of UniKL, Datuk Seri Dr Adham bin Baba. In his opening speech, Adham reminded the graduates not to forget their parents, lecturers and juniors when they’re successful.
“Perform your duty with utmost responsibility and become a good example for medical graduates from other universities. When you attend to your patients, do so with love and humility. You’ve to listen more than talk. You can learn a lot by listening,” said Adham.
Trophies were presented to recipients of the Dean’s Award, Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Award, Distinction Award, Best Student Award in Surgery, Primary Care, Psychiatry, Orthopaedic, Paediatric, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Medicine and Public Health.
Dr Muhammad Zuhri bin Zainudin, 24, was awarded the best student in Paediatrics, the MMA Award and the Distinction Award. He attributed his success to his parents, lecturers, friends and study-group mates who helped and supported him all along.
Hailing from Cheras, Selangor, the second of six children, he plans to complete his housemanship before furthering his studies. Unsure of what the future holds, Zuhri hopes to specialise in internal medicine.
Recipient of the Dean’s Award, Dr Wong Pui Seen, 24, said the secret behind her success was consistency in studying, revision and not accumulating work.
“During times of difficulties, I’d turn to my family and lecturers for support,” said Wong, the elder of two children.
Present at the ceremony was Perak Health Department acting director Dato’ Dr Rahimi Goon.
