Ipoh’s Busking Corner

The newly-established Malaysian Buskers Corner (MyBc) at Kinta Riverwalk in Ipoh is set to be a platform for budding artistes to showcase their talent.

Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Arpah Abdul Razak said that MyBc is a federal initiative to assist those who are musically-inclined, especially street musicians.

Realising the positive impact that this group generates, primarily for a city’s well-being, her ministry has been working with local authorities to create an avenue for them.

“MyBc will be a good place for them to showcase their talent to the public. Besides, busking will now be structured and controlled and will only be possible at selected locations throughout the country,” she said at the launch of Malaysia Buskers Corner in Ipoh recently.

Her speech was read out by the Ministry’s Deputy Chief Secretary (Urban Well-being), Datuk Halimi Abd Manaf. Present at the launch was Ipoh City Mayor, Dato’ Harun Rawi.

Besides busking, MyBc is also a site for other art forms such as magic and animal shows. It could also be a place for the trading of items related to arts like books, musical instruments and implements. The Ministry hoped that the opportunity offered would be beneficial to local artistes.

Malaysian Buskers’ Club will be the organiser of the programmes. All performers have to register themselves as “Friends of My Buskers Corner” prior to performing. The Kinta Riverwalk Busking Corner is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
