Puan Tabiah Shahuddin, 67, the lady who ate coco yam to sustain herself and her mentally disturbed son, was a picture of health when met recently. She recounted how her story in Ipoh Echo Issue 89 had touched the hearts of many Ipohites and outsiders alike. “Well-wishers came looking for me to render assistance,” she said. “They brought with them clothes, foodstuffs and cash.” Their timely appearance did much to lift up her spirits. “I am fortunate that there are still good people around who are prepared to share their good fortunes with the less fortunate, and I thank Ipoh Echo for making this happen.” Tabiah has moved out of her run-down shack to a comfortable little house courtesy of Baitulmal.
