The Men Against Violence road show, jointly organised by Wanita Umno Perak and Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) held at the Polo Ground Ipoh on Sunday, October 31, was well received by Ipohites. The objective of the show was to encourage men to take the lead in stopping violence against women and children. The opening ceremony was performed by Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, MB Perak. In attendance were the MB’s wife, Datin Seri Saripah, Adun for Ulu Kinta, Dato’ Hajjah Rusnah Kassim, Datin Normah Hanum, Chairperson Public and Social Development Secretariat Wanita Umno Perak and Dr Sharifah Halimah, President PWW. Some 20 NGOs and government agencies, which included Perak Family Health Association, Good Shepherd, Legal Aid Perak, Police and the Social Welfare Department, participated. Wanita Umno Perak Choir sang the theme song “Hentikan”, an original composition by Perakean Wah Idris. The highlight of the event was the “stamping of the palm” by Zambry as a sign of support for the awareness campaign. Other highlights were a children’s colouring contest, sketch, cultural dances and lucky draws. The audience was entertained to songs by internationally acclaimed singer, Iqwal.
