The Exclusive Beverly Thompson

Falim Set for Growth with Tin City


The Kinta Real Estate group has begun work on Tin City in Falim, which will see more commercial growth to this southern section of Ipoh City. With a budget allocation of RM150 million, this development was officially launched in May this year and is expected to be fully developed in 2017.

Group managing director Datuk Poo Tak Kiau said that sales so far have been encouraging,  auguring well for the project. “With its strategic location for traffic heading south towards Menglembu, and all traffic having to pass through Tin City to get there, exciting retail opportunities are in the pipeline. With a hotel, condominium and a new hypermarket, this retail centre is projected to be an upmarket commercial hub with shops, cafes and trendy retail outlets, creating an instant facelift for Falim and bringing new life to this sleepy enclave on completion.”

In conjunction with the official launch of the project, the group is organising an exhibition themed ‘A Return to Ipoh’s Glorious Times’ which is on till August 11.

Roshidi and Symphony Suites


Mayor Dato’ Roshidi Hashim spent Labour Day, May 1, having tea with members and their families of Puspanita MBI, where his wife, Datin Hajjah Zainab Mohd Zainal Abidin is the Chairperson, at Symphony Suites. It was to mark the completion of the new hotel in town.

Addressing the press, Roshidi warmly welcomed Symphony Suites in enlivening the hospitality industry in Ipoh. He was impressed with its architecture, which he deemed comparable to Shanghai’s Grand Mercure. “It’s something different for Ipoh,” he said.

Roshidi and Symphony SuitesIn view of the owners’ commitment to participate in the city’s economic development, the mayor offered three months free banner advertisement for the hotel.

Roshidi was also impressed with the suites, especially those facing Gunung Rapat limestone hills. Suites on higher floors have a commanding view of half of Ipoh.

Strategically located just a short distance away from the Simpang Pulai PLUS Expressway exit, the mayor said that its current pre-opening rate of RM210 nett (approximately SGD85) a night is very attractive to Singaporeans. He suggested to the owners to come up with a menu synonymous with the hotel.

One of the owners of Symphony Suites, Lee Chee Ming, said that over the three years that was taken to build the hotel, Roshidi and Ipoh City Council have been particularly supportive of their efforts. Their doors were always open.

This boutique hotel is one of the 266 completed projects, out of the 4445 approved development projects by Ipoh City Council made through its one-stop centre. There are about ten star-rated hotels at various stages of development in Ipoh. They include Weil, Mercure, Cititel, Ibis, and in its final stages of discussion, Hilton.
