PCSH: A Heritage in Care, A Reputation in Excellence

A team of delegates from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) recently visited the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) on November 8.

Led by MHTC’s CEO, Mohd Daud Mohd Arif; Vice President Norhaslina Othman, and Marketing Director (Indonesia), Farah Delah Suhaimi, the team was welcomed by PCSH CEO Nicholas Chan who later took them on a tour of the hospital.

PCSH is a not-for-profit institution, formerly known as Perak Chinese Maternity Hospital (PCMH) since its inception in 1904. From its humble beginnings as a six-bedded hospital rendering maternity services to Chinese families in the tin-mining community in Perak, it has grown into a 69-bedded multi-disciplinary specialist hospital located at Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun (formerly Kampar Road) and remain as one of the oldest community hospitals in Malaysia.

PCSH has indeed come a long way with its efforts to upgrade the hospital’s facilities, services and infra-structure. This year, PCSH successfully built the PCSH Heart Centre and its 3rd Operation Theatre. The new Heart Centre is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Philips Azurion 7 when it first became available in Perak. It offers more effective treatment options using advanced catheter-based procedures, enabling PCSH’s specialists to perform a wider range of minimally invasive diagnostic and Interventional Cardiovascular procedures such as Coronary Angiogram (CA), Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) and Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) in a patient-focused environment. The new and well-equipped 3rd Operation Theatre enables PCSH to shorten the waiting list for surgical procedures, thereby providing better and speedier service to their patients.

In its vision of becoming a modern multidisciplinary hospital providing affordable quality healthcare services, PCSH has built a new six-storey building adjacent to the existing block. This new block comprises many new features including 75 beds (both single and double bedders), 26 new consultant suites, a new Imaging Centre with a new MRI Machine, CT scan and Fluoroscopy Machine, a new pharmacy, admission department, lobby and International Patient Lounge, among others.

With all these upgrades and the simultaneous recruitment of additional competent staff (both clinical and non-clinical), PCSH is now able and ready to cater to international patients’ needs. The transformation is still in progress and they are making an effort to seize the opportunity to play a more significant role and integrate into the medical tourism world.

This is in line with MHTC’s aims to give patients a seamless journey in getting medical checkup and treatment.

PCSH is located very strategically as the airport is only six minutes away. The hospital is also surrounded by hotels, shopping complexes, eateries and restaurants.

PCSH added another feather to its cap of achievements when it was recently honoured with a fourth placing in the list of Top 10 Private Hospitals in Malaysia 2021/ 2022, hosted by iBanding Services Sdn Bhd. iBanding is an independent webpage which conducts online surveys and provides education about insurance and Takaful. With iBanding’s Top 4 rating, PCSH has literally morphed from being regarded by the public as just “an old hospital” to one that has come of age and contention with a complete make-over.

PCSH hopes that the plans with MHTC augurs well and with their anticipated participation in medical tourism, they look forward to reaching even greater heights in making their mark as a significant preferred healthcare provider.
