Izza’s Deafness Not an Obstacle

Being deaf is not an obstacle for Izzatul Husna Mohd Jaffri, 12, who became the first student in 12 years to achieve 1A in Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Ipoh.

She has proven that despite her disability, she too can perform as well as other students, as long as she has the determination and the persistence.

Izzatul Husna, whose ambition is to be a teacher, scored 1A in Bahasa Melayu (written), B for Mathematics, Science, Bahasa Melayu (comprehension) and C for English.

Teacher Ahaniza Jaafar, said that the fact that Izzatul is deaf has made her more hardworking than other students.

Relaying to the press on behalf of Izzatul, as soon as the examination results were announced on November 26, Ahaniza said, “She wanted to prove that those with special needs can also be successful. Always pray to God for success and do good. Izzatul’s family support was also crucial in her success today.”

Izzatul’s mother, Marhamah Embon, 50, was elated with her child’s success. “She’s an obedient kid. Although the scheduled examination was disrupted by the case of paper leakage, her principal and teachers didn’t stop motivating her to continue with her lessons,” said Marhamah. Incidentally, two of her other children are also deaf since birth.
